It’s been three years since Dallas rap trio The Outfit, TX released a proper group album, and lots of things have changed in that time. 2015 seems like an entirely new world—one in which Dallas has a resurgent arts scene and a DIY group like TOTX can find themselves touring with Run the Jewels—and a discomfortingly familiar one, where racism and hatred is as omnipresent as ever. The video for “Highs and Lows,” from TOTX’s upcoming album Down by the Trinity, brings those themes to the forefront. Over Mel’s stripped-down, post-funk production, Mel and Jayhawk tackle both celebration and despair. Directed by Jeff Adair, the video captures four phases of emotion and sets the tone for the album, which comes out November 18. Check it out above.
