Whinnie WillIams—the London based singer with a penchant for voluminous hair and sweet but sassy 60s-tinged pop tunes—returns with a new video for "Too Strong." Sonically it's a sultry, retro-spangled song, all honeyed harmonies as Williams delivers her musical missive, not to a lover, but to her dad.
"I wrote 'Too Strong’ with producers Future Cut, it's a really special song for me because it was inspired by my dad," she explains. "I think a lot of people especially men find it hard to open up about their problems. I wanted to write a song for everyone who has loved someone who just won't open up and they have just been 'Too Strong for too long.'"
As per usual Williams' visuals are on point. Where her videos for last year's Bad Girl EP smacked of Brigitte Bardot and French Yé-yé, "Too Strong" leaps a decade forward—so much satin in the 70s! Plus a shot that's rather reminiscent of this iconic moment from American Beauty (except no rose petals and plenty of glitter, glitter, glitter. And freckles).
"My boyfriend Tom Dream directed the video, we wrote the idea together over tea and biscuits. I wanted Elvis to be my dad in the video as he is such an iconic man who was very proud and that I think had a lot of sadness in his life," Williams says. "I'm obsessed with the 70s and space so got super stylist Aimee Croysdill to style it."
Have a little look…
