Skeletonwitch is back, baby! They recently announced the recruitment of new vocalist Adamn Walker (formerly of Wolvhammer and Veil of Maya), and from the sounds of things, these sons of Midwestern darkness have found the perfect new foil in Walker's versatile pipes.
The band has just posted a new song, "Well of Despair," and it finds Skeletonwitch leaning heavy on the black side of their black/thrash formula (I suppose that's what happens when you ask a black metal dude to join the band). "Well of Despair" is primarily a cold blast of icy, melodic black metal fury; those beloved thrash and melodic death metal influences are still there, of course, and there's plenty of shredding.
It definitely bodes well for their upcoming new EP, too. I've always thought that Skeletonwitch never got quite enough credit from underground circles, and while their profile will undoubtedly continue to elevate them beyond the basements and dive bars where they first cut their teeth, they've carried on churning out quality melodic black/thrash for a hell of a long time, and are showing no signs of stopping.
Take a listen to "Well of Despair" below.
Catch Skeletonwitch on tour later this month with Abbath, High on Fire, and Tribulation.
