Sacramento's Chrch (formerly known as Church, but hey, vowels are overrated anyway) emerged as one of last year's most promising new doom bands. Thanks to their sludgy, ambitious Battleground Records debut, Unanswered Hymns (which came streaked with psychedelia and languid, effortlessly heavy riffs) Chrch's profile has grown by leaps and bounds. The humble, eager little band I saw opening for YOB in a tiny Sacramento club is now slated to appear on Roadburn's hallowed stage, play Arizona's rapidly-expanding Southwest Terror Fest, and join the the absurdly stacked lineup for Psycho Las Vegas alongside Sleep and Candlemass. HJard work (and killer riffs) do pay off sometimes.
Check out their new video for "Stargazer" (created by NYC filmmaker Frank Huang) and take a peek at a slew of upcoming international tour dates below.
Catch Chrch on a quickie West Coast run with King Woman next month, before they head overseas for their maiden European tour (which will include appearances at Roadburn and Doom Over Leipzig). They'll be hitting a few more domestic festivals later this year, too, so be sure to get your fill when they come through.
